pv software package provides Shell pipeline element to meter data passing through, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install pv
pv is installed in your system.
Make ensure the pv package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep pv *
You will get with pv package name, version, architecture and description in a table
